REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR ASA CHAMPS AT GA TECH!
Hello CHAT Families!
The Atlanta Swim Association (ASA) hosts a championship meet at the end of the summer swim season at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center (facility built for the 1996 Summer Olympics). This meet is a really cool experience! The cost to participate is $50; last year we had 16 CHAT swimmers swim at the ASA meet. The deadline to register is Thursday 6/19 at 11:59PM!!!!!!
General Info:
June 27 at 9:30 am
We will meet at the Chartwell pool at 6:45 am to caravan (we can help with transportation for parents with work conflicts)
Parking:
You can reserve a parking spot in the W10 Deck on the GA Tech Campus for about $10. I highly suggest doing this. Please note: IF YOU CARPOOL with another swimmer/family, you can expense your parking through me (Jen Tullar). Let me know if you have any questions on that.
Entry fee: $50 per swimmer (paid through SwimTopia site - Click blue "Register now" on the Home Page of the website)
Swimmers do not have to qualify for this meet, other than being able to swim an entire lap unassisted. This meet is not the most friendly to young children because it has three deep pools and is quite large, so please consider your child's capability and comfort zone. Know that a coach or parent will be with your child almost every step of the way.
Events:
Most swimmers attending the ASA meet will have 2-4 races (maximum of 2 individuals and 2 relays) and will be able to choose their individual events. Your swimmer will have a better chance of placing higher in certain events (freestyle will always be VERY competitive so unless free is their best stroke by far, I suggest choosing their best non-freestyle events). If your child is attending the ASA meet please text or email Coach Caroline what two individual events your swimmer would like to race by the afternoon of the 18th, otherwise, she will pick something for them and it CANNOT BE CHANGED.
Volunteers:
We will need 1 volunteer per 10 swimmers attending who will fill an ASA job (timer, bullpen, etc). However, we will also need the help of a few parents to escort swimmers to the bullpen, watch bags, and carpool swimmers to the meet.
State Teams:
Additionally, swimmers attending the ASA meet will have a unique opportunity to qualify for a state team like City of Alpharetta (COAST) or the Johns Creek Aquatic Team (JCAT). Your swimmers must be 6-18 YO for JCAT or 7-18 for COAST to participate in either of these programs. Practices run through June and July, finishing with the GRPA State Championship. Please let me know if you are interested in more information.
Please see Coach Caroline, Heather or me (Jen) if you have questions. We look forward to having a great group of swimmers at ASA to represent CHAT!
